Certain occupations have an increased requirement for hand care. In particular, healthcare workers have a higher exposure to water and other aqueous solutions through frequent hand washing, use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers, cleaning liquids and the wearing of glovers. All this exposure has the ability to impair the natural barrier properties of the skin, especially on the hands.
